Paul Anderson is a founding partner and managing director of OnlineDM, a database and e-marketing service, set up after he got his MBA at SBS in 1992 after studying on the one-year full-time programme.
Prior to the MBA, Paul was a marketing executive at Thomson Holidays. He held an MSc in tourism from Strathclyde University and a BSc in Geography from Queen Mary College, London University.
After his MBA he spent a couple of years in the UK before going to Australia in 1994. In 1996 he co-founded a marketing analysis consultancy in Sydney. Upon the successful sale of this, he returned to the UK and worked with a marketing database company which successfully won the bid to merge Lloyds and TSB marketing database together. With two colleagues he established OnlineDM in 2000 in the UK. The company has gone on to become a leading provider of marketing database and e-marketing services to a broad range of clients.
In April 2002, it was decided to set up in Australia and it was Paul's responsibility to replicate the UK operation in Australia.
"Getting an MBA helped in so many ways, - perhaps the main one was that it gave me access to the wider business community. Companies who in the past wouldn't have been interested at least offered me a chance to have a conversation with them. Since graduating I have had the confidence to go on and develop two successful businesses in Australia and the UK."
Paul adds that the key benefit of the MBA for him was "giving me the confidence to just go for it."
