Case Study: Sonia Inam BITS
When I decided to undertake a postgraduate qualification in business, Strathclyde became the natural choice for me. Its excellent international reputation made it instantly attractive.
The BITS course itself is unique in that it has equipped me with a distinctive mix of business and IT skills, something that is well sought after in today's increasingly competitive graduate job market. Throughout the course I felt challenged and enjoyed climbing the steep learning curve.
I received excellent support from the academic staff as well as from my classmates, and the culture within the BITS class was extremely positive.
The experience I had overall was invaluable as I was exposed to a wide variety of subjects, teaching styles, assessments and people. Together, these factors made it easier to face the many assessment centres, interviews and application forms involved in my job search.
I received various job offers before completing my project at the Scottish Football Association (SFA). After carefully considering all the options, I chose to work for the Royal Mail Group, in which I'm currently placed in Post Office Ltd within the IT Directorate. I made this decision based on the high profile changes and restructuring the Post Office is currently going through which I believed would satisfy my desire to be challenged.
The skills I developed on the BITS course have put me in a good position to bridge the gap between business and IT knowledge that is now so common in organisations, and so relevant to the work I'm currently doing.
Looking back, undertaking the BITS programme was one of the best decisions I've ever made - and a year I'll certainly never forget.
